MAUDITE SOIT LA GUERRE – DAMN THE WAR 1914-1918

The French author André Chabot is a well-known publisher of beautiful books on cemeteries, ancient tombs and funeral nostalgia.
In his recent publication “Maudite Soit La Guerre”, André Chabot, the grandson of the gassed soldier, visits cemeteries throughout the world searching for the final resting places of those who were tragically swept up in that deadly and absurd conflict. « Damn the War » perfectly sums up his goal: to show the war for what it was so that it is never again seen as a possible solution to global conflicts.
On the Cover

In 1922, the Mayor of the little town Gentioux (Creuse), a former World War I soldier, erected this rare war memorial to honor those killed in combat. An orphan points to the inscription « Damn the War, » as well as the names of fifty-seven fellow citizens who lost their lives. The local authorities refused to recognize the memorial and it was not until 1985 that it was officially inaugurated. Each year, pacifists gather together in front of the memorial.
