IAFM - Funeral Museums

The FIAT-IFTA Funeral Heritage Board and IAFM – International Association of Funeral Museums are departments of FIAT-IFTA. These departments report at the annual I.C.D. (International Council of Direction) meeting of the National Members and at the biennial Convention of the FIAT-IFTA membership.

The 27year old architect Max Hegele won 1899 the competition for the buildings for the ceremony halls, cemetery church and arcade crypts on Vienna Central Cemetery. All buildings are made in art deco style. Hall 2 is now in use for the "Bestattungsmuseum am Wiener Zentralfriedhof".

Funeral Museums tell about the past, present and future of our dealings with death. The international funerary heritage, the living traditions and customs are central to mission of FIAT-IFTA to create awareness of the history of the funeral profession.
