By now, we can witness a definitive retreat from the burial ritual. And yet it is here that we find reflected our relations to our ancestors and our roots in general. Accompanying this change is a decline in funerary art, which after World War II has almost vanished.
The group Glaz Bridge finds this situation deeply disturbing. It has prepared a project focusing on paying homage to the deceased through artistic means, as in the past was a common practice. The first part of the project is being presented under the title Glass Soul / Pietas – a collection of burial urns using as their primary material glass, which has its unique specifics and previously remained outside the centre of interest for creators of funerary sculpture.
Invitations for cooperation were extended to leading Czech artists from a variety of disciplines, with the goal of offering further possibilities to the conception of molten-glass sculpture. Underlying all efforts is a single aim: creating a functional funerary object and using artistic means to express homage to the deceased.
